Home Alone

Home Alone is a movie about an eight-year-old named Kevin McCallister. Kevin is seen as a troublemaker to his whole family and is consistently being left out. One day Kevin’s family accidently left Kevin behind when they were leaving to the airport for their Christmas vacation to France. Once he realized his family left him home alone, Kevin finally felt free to do all the things that grownups did not allow him to do if they were there. Unfortunately, a pair of burglars break in to rob the McCallister residence, and it is Kevin’s job to protect the house while he is left alone.

Character Performances

Kevin McCallister- Kevin’s performance in Home Alone was admirable because he protected his house from the burglars at all costs. He was never afraid and never gave up even though he was alone with no one to really look after him or help him. He mostly played the movie out himself and showed how a little young boy can be so genius when it comes to something he cares for.

Burglars- Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern) played the role of the two men who planned to rob Kevin’s home. The special part of their performance and what made the movie like no other was how they tried everything they could and an eight-year-old still won. Their performance made the movie ten times funnier and enjoyable.

Family- Kevin’s family performance was an important part of the movie because many of the people watching the movie could relate or identify with it. At a certain part of our lives we too often wish our family just disappeared, so we could just be free to do whatever we wanted however shortly after we regret it. Kevin’s family cared for him even though they did not show it at first.

Christmas Classic

Home Alone is a Christmas classic because the movie on the surface is very funny, but when one starts to acknowledge the movie one starts noticing that the movie has a much deeper meaning. The movie shows a theme that is common to all humans and it is loneliness. Loneliness is not the same as being alone. Loneliness is a result of not feeling seen and heard. Kevin misbehaved so much because of the desire to be seen and acknowledge by his family not because he was a brat and a bad kid. He was perhaps noticed but unseen.

All classic movies provide a wisdom, and in the movie Home Alone the wisdom given is its’s never too late. In one scene, Kevin walks into a church to listen to the choir practice. He sees his next-door neighbor, Marley, and has a conversation with him. Marley gives Kevin wisdom about how one should always love ones family even if they hurt you. When Marley talks about his estrangement from his son, Kevin gives Marley his advice that it is never too late to fix things. Therefore, when Marely reunited with his son and granddaughter on Christmas it turned out to be the most emotional scene because seeing a lonely old man hug his family is moment that makes anyone cry.

Home Alone is a classic because of the themes it provides to the audience such as, love, compassion, and forgiveness.

 Most Popular Scene

One of the most popular scenes in Home Alone was created to warm someone’s heart. The scene appeared after being accidentally left behind. He starts rifling through his brother’s belongings where he discovers a framed photo of his brother’s beloved girlfriend. In the photo, the girl is seen with a cheesy smile and a set of braces. Kevin then says one of the most immortal lines on the movie, “Buzz, your girlfriend! Woof!”

The producers of the film decided it would be unkind and unprofessional to put a girl in that particular role of just being funny-looking. The art director had his son who was willing to volunteer for the part. Therefore, Buzz’s girlfriend was actually a young boy. Producers did not want any girl to feel bad about herself, so the fact they thought about that and decided to not put any girl through that situation was brilliant of them.

  1. “This is my house, I have to defend it”
  2. “I made my family disappear”
  3. “Buzz, I’m reading through all your private stuff, you better come out and pound me!”
  4. “Buzz, your girlfriend…woof!”
  5. “Keep the change, ya filthy animal”
  6. “You guys give up? Or are you thirsty for more?”
  7. “Guys, I’m eating junk and watching rubbish! You better come out and stop me!”

Home Alone in my opinion is an extraordinary Christmas movie. It is really funny and entertaining but also it is very heartwarming. Some scenes might be seen dumb and corny but that does not mean the movie is not meant to be a Christmas traditional movie. It is one of the best Christmas movies that have been playing for the past twenty years. It is a classic, it teaches you a lot of life lessons such as, it is never too late which I think it is one of the wisest things a person may say. The movie is just hilarious and great to watch with family.
