On March 20th, 2017, Pearl HS teachers Wesley Welch and Casey Spell directed an ACT Boot Camp for students preparing to take the ACT.

The ACT Boot Camp had about two hundred and fifty students take part.

The Boot Camp was split up into three sessions, each session being filled with about seventy to eighty students.

Each session focused on different subjects (like Math and English) and strategies on taking the ACT.

Wesley Welch, an ACT Prep teacher at Pearl HS, said, “We covered the content most likely to appear and focused on test taking strategies to help students raise their scores in the most efficient way possible.”

The ACT, American College Testing, is a timed test for high school achievement and college admissions in the U.S.

People who take the ACT are scored based off of a point system of one to thirty-six.

Since the ACT is timed, every person has a limited amount of time to finish each portion of the test. The English portion lasts for forty-five minutes, the Mathematics portion lasts for sixty minutes, Reading for thirty-five minutes, Science for thirty-five minutes and an optional writing test for forty minutes all coming together for a total of three hours and thirty-five minutes.
